Abstract (EN)
This paper will discuss Elliot Perlman's novel Three Dollars, set in 1980s Australia when government reforms introduced neo-liberal policies into the economy of this nation whose nationalism had formerly proned protectionism. The novel is concerned with the shape that a market-minded society is giving to masculinity as the hero Eddie seeks to fulfill and/or dodge his uncle's materialist argument, " A man is, both to the world and his wife, the sum of his material effects, his house, his furniture, his car, his business..."
Subjects / Keywords
