This book explores the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), in ten Member States (Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom including comments on Brexit situation) and its international influence in Switzerland and Japan. Eight months after the entry into force of the GDPR, this book analyses the tension between the visibility of the European Model and the readability of this model. This book provides insights and commentary on derogation and option differences between Member States. It outlines the issues most contested when national legislatures were drafting and implementing Bills to give effect to permitted derogations in the GDPR. Furthermore, this book questions to what extent the diversity of approach of national adaptations raises concerns regarding their conformity to the GDPR.This book is the result of an international cooperation launched through an e-conference organised by blogdroiteuropeen in June 2018. It brings together papers from seventeen legal academics or practitioners (lawyers, Data protection officers, and Data Protection authority representatives).
