Document de travail / Working paper
This paper presents a comparative analysis between poverty reduction through the use of cash transfers programs and an alternative program of earned income tax credit (EITC). After seventeen years of implementing the Human Development program “Oportunidades” in Mexico we compare its effects with an income tax credit that fosters employment and reduce poverty, concluding it is a better strategy for tackling poverty in a sustainable way, and at lower public cost.en
