dc.description.abstractenIn both the strategy and human resource management literatures, there has been growing interest in understanding how human resource systems contribute to organizational effectiveness. However, cross-fertilization of these literatures has been limited. In this study, we examine how sources of human capital beyond the functional area of human resources can contribute to the firm’s performance. This paper argues that the interaction seen in engaged organizations of human capital with social and green forms of capital is associated with higher labor productivity. We develop a comprehensive model of intellectual capital management, which reveals the importance of both individual and firm level perspectives. Financial participation, interpersonal relations, inter-organizational relations, and environmental practices are shown to contribute to work systems in ways that positively affect organizational performance. We confirm our model with the analysis of 5,210 responses from a survey of French firms.en
